POLITICAL RELATIONS

The President of Burundi, H.E Pierre NKURUNZIZA, attended the 2nd Istanbul-Somalia Conference held in Istanbul from May 31st to June 1^st, 2012. During his visit to Turkey, the President of Burundi met with the Former President of Turkey H.E. Abdullah Gül and H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Current President and Former Premier Minister of the Republic of Turkey. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Burundi also had talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey H.E. Ahmet Davutoğlu.

One year before, that was May 31^st to June 1^st, the former President of Turkey, H.E. Abdullah Gül and the former Vice- President of Burundi Gervais Rufyikiri met on the sidelines of the Fourth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries took place on 9 -13 May 2011 in Istanbul and discussed issues of mutual interests.

In 2012, Turkey became a member of the “Burundi Configuration” established in 2006 under the Peacebuilding Commission.

And on August 28, 2014, Former Foreign Minister Laurent Kavakure participated in the Presidential hand-over ceremony held in Ankara.
